______________ ______________

Since 2010, all students at Tokai are required to take 4 English courses under the Unified English Curriculum over a 2 year period. First-year students take one semester of ‘English Listening & Speaking 1’ (LS1) and one semester of ‘English Reading & Writing 1’ (RW1). Students are divided so half of them take L&S and the other half takes R&W in the spring; then switch in the fall. In their second year, these students take one semester of ‘English Listening & Speaking 2’ (LS2) and one semester of ‘English Reading & Writing 2’ (RW2).

In addition to the required Unified English Curriculum courses (LS1, RW1, LS2, RW2), there are over 50 IEC English electives.

There are 2 minors: Career English and Critical Thinking (formerly called Business English), and Intercultural Understanding (formerly called English Language and Culture).

  • A minor is 20 credits of English courses.
  • Students not qualified to take many advanced courses can still get most of their 20 credits from
  • lower level courses.
  • Students can also earn credits by studying abroad.
  • Students who are not working toward a Business Minor can also take our business courses as electives.
